A studio built around stone lithography
Lithography Art works from Woodstock, Cape Town, producing limited edition prints for artists and collectors across South Africa. Our studio follows the time-honoured stone lithography process, where a limestone surface is prepared, drawn on, chemically treated and printed by hand in carefully planned passes. It is detailed work, and every stage depends on patience, accuracy and good communication.
People who enjoy making things properly tend to settle in well here. Some days are quiet and methodical, other days involve proofing, packing or coordinating with artists from Stellenbosch, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban.
Roles we often bring into the team
We regularly look for people with skills in printing, editioning, client service, studio support and collections handling. Some roles are highly practical and hands-on, while others involve careful coordination and record keeping.
- Master printer and studio assistant support
- Editioning and signing assistance
- Paper handling and archival packing
- Client communication and studio visits
- Collections coordination and job tracking
If you have experience in printmaking, fine art production, framing coordination or similar work, we would be interested in hearing from you. We also welcome applicants who have a strong eye for detail and a steady manner with artists and collectors.
What the work asks of you day to day
Studio life here is practical. You may be asked to prepare materials, assist during proofing sessions, label editions, check numbering or help pack finished work for delivery. At times the work is repetitive, and at other times it requires quick judgement when a proof needs one more colour or a stone needs more preparation. That part is normal.
We look for people who can work neatly, respect edition integrity and keep notes that other people can trust. A good hand and a careful eye count for a lot in lithography. So does being comfortable with clean procedures, paper handling and the discipline needed to keep an edition consistent from first proof to final print.
Who fits in well at Lithography Art
Our team is made up of Shailen Naicker, Nomvula Phalatse, Stefan Hattingh, Rukshana Kamaar, Bonga Mngadi and Tegan Jacobs. Each person contributes to the studio in a different way, from printing and technical setup to client service and edition administration. We value people who can work across functions without losing focus on quality.
- Clear communication with artists and collectors
- Respect for fine-art process and edition standards
- Reliability with schedules, paperwork and packing
- Comfort working in a small team environment
- Interest in learning specialised print methods
Previous studio experience is useful, but not every role requires years of formal training. In some cases, a strong work ethic and a practical approach matter just as much as prior exposure to printmaking.
How to apply through our contact page for print collectors
If you would like to be considered for future roles, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and include a short note about the kind of work you are looking for. Please mention your experience, your location and whether you are available for studio work in Woodstock or able to travel in Cape Town when needed.
We review enquiries as they come in. If your background matches the kind of role we need, we will get back to you through the contact details you provide. Keep your application clear and practical, with any relevant print, arts administration or studio experience listed plainly. That makes it easier for us to assess fit.
Working with collectors and editioned prints
Because we print limited editions, staff need to understand how carefully controlled each run must be. Prints may be signed and numbered, packed for collectors in Sea Point or Newlands, or prepared for delivery to other parts of South Africa. Care with condition reports, archival materials and handling is part of the job, and it matters from the first proof to the final box.
We also work closely with artists during proofing and edition planning. That means jobs can change as the edition develops, and you may need to adapt without losing attention to detail. It is steady work, and if you enjoy seeing a print come together properly, this studio can be a rewarding place to be.
